Wilderness Wellness: Outdoor fitness for body, mind, and soul.

We at Backcountry Bard are about total body, mind, and spirit fitness.

The only thing is we do it outdoors!

If you are into rucking, hiking, and fun runs, we have a Wilderness Wellness club for you!
And down the road, we'll hop on a bike and get wet, too!

WHAT IS RUCKING?

People have carried weight for long distances since our earliest days as hunter-gatherers.  Compared to most other animals, our species has unique abilities for carrying weight.

Rucking is walking with weight on your back.  Walking with a weighted rucksack (aka backpack) is a low impact exercise based on military training workouts.  You've probably already spent time rucking—traveling, school, or commuting to work.

Rucking Benefits

- It's simple, and anyone can do it

- It gets you outside

- It's active resistance training

- You burn up to 3X more calories than just walking

- It's good for your back and posture

- It's social fitness that is good for mental health

We want to thank GORUCK for inspiring us to ruck, creating high quality gear, and creating content to learn more about our favorite fitness activity.  We fully encourage you to invest in GORUCK products if you learn to love rucking like we do at Backcountry Bard.

Our philosophy of hiking

We at Backcountry Bard define hiking as "a long walk in nature, usually on trails in scenic areas."  While hiking offers physical fitness benefits, it is not our primary mission.  Instead, White-tail Hikers focuses on the mental and spiritual fitness of hiking and fellowship with the group. We look to reconnect with nature to work out whatever we need to within ourselves.  Each hiker is free to go on the trail at their own pace.

Our hikes are defined as "day hikes," which are hikes that are completed in a single day. Typically, we hike between two and six miles, spending anywhere from one to three hours on the trail.

A special thank you to our good friend Tyler "Smitty" Smith for allowing us to use this video. Check out his YouTube channel:

Make races fun!

We at Backcountry Bard want to get involved with fun runs. While we appreciate a good 5K, we really enjoy a 5K (or 10K or maybe a 15K) with a bit or tricks!  If you like your fun run with bubbles, glowing in the dark, being chased by zombies, navigating obstacles, or getting absolutely filthy, we may be the right group for you!
