Overview
Enjoy this 3.1-mile out-and-back trail near Flower Mound, Texas. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 1 h 1 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking, mountain biking, and running, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

This portion of the hike is from MADD Shelter to Murrell Park trailhead and back. There are several trailheads along the North Shore Trail, including at: Rockledge Park, Murrell Park, MADD Shelter, and Twin Coves Park. This is a single-track trail. It meanders along the shoreline of Lake Grapevine and sometimes goes through thick hardwood forest. On January 1, 2025, two members of the White-tail Hikers club embarked on the North Shore Trail from MADD Shelter to Murrell Park near Flower Mound, Texas. The day began with clear, sunny skies and a crisp 40°F temperature, providing ideal conditions for a winter hike.
The trail, stretching approximately 3.1 miles out and back, was mostly dry, ensuring firm footing throughout the journey. As they progressed, the hikers were treated to diverse landscapes, including serene lake views of Lake Grapevine and shaded wooded areas. The well-maintained path, marked by gradual elevation changes, offered a pleasant challenge suitable for various skill levels.
The hikers encountered local wildlife along the route, such as white-tailed deer and Texas spiny lizards, enhancing the natural experience. The trail's composition of sand and dirt, interspersed with occasional rocks and roots, required attentive navigation but remained manageable. Notably, the trail is shared with mountain bikers, who have the right of way, necessitating alertness and courtesy from all users.
The hike concluded at Murrell Park, where the expansive views of Lake Grapevine provided a rewarding end to the excursion.
