Our Story
Backcountry Bard was born from a shared passion for adventure, storytelling, and the great outdoors that evolved over the course of four years and five previous websites. Founded by Shawn and his son David, Backcountry Bard is the culmination of their lifelong love affair with exploration and creativity.
Shawn, a proud United States Air Force veteran, has always deeply appreciated nature and the sense of freedom it provides. After completing his service, Shawn pursued his passion for writing, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in Creative Writing from the University of North Texas. During his time at UNT, Shawn discovered the power of storytelling to inspire, educate, and connect people from all walks of life.
Meanwhile, Shawn's adventurous son David was busy honing his skills behind the lens. A college student at the University of North Texas, David is working towards a degree in Studio Arts with a concentration in photography. With an innate talent for capturing the beauty of the natural world, David's photographs transport viewers to distant landscapes and evoke a sense of wonder and awe.
Shawn and David realized their shared dream of creating a platform that celebrates the joy of outdoor exploration through writing, photography, and outdoor fitness. Drawing on their unique backgrounds and expertise, they founded Backcountry Bard as a way to inspire others to embrace adventure, forge meaningful connections, and discover the magic of the world around them.
As father and son, Shawn and David are not just business partners; they are kindred spirits united by a love for nature and a desire to share their wonders with the world.
